Single-lip seals

The term comes from Walter Simmer, who in 1929 applied an innovative seal in his machine designed for tanning leather. Instead of the tallow rope that was commonly used at the time, he used a leather strap. In this way, he created a kind of lip that helped him achieve a higher rotational speed of the shaft. The fact that it extended the durability of the entire seal was also significant. Today, single-lip seals are one of the most popular seals for rotating shafts. Of course, over the years, the details of the entire device have been modified to better fulfill their task, which is to prevent oil from leaking from opposite sides of the shaft. It is worth noting that single-lip seals work well in situations where the device designer has used other elements to protect the lips of the seal from turning inside out.
